Meeting will provide update on Ridgeland Common renovation

The Park District of Oak Park is taking the next step in a multi-year planning process for the renovation of Ridgeland Common and hosting a public meeting Thursday to update the community on the project’s progress.

Architects from Nagle Hartray are set to present an update on the status of the project that was approved in late fall 2011.

The Park District board adopted the $23.5 million plan outline at the Oct. 20 board meeting, choosing the renovation plan over the new construction plan valued at $30 million.

The plan includes complete building reconstruction, expansion of the existing ice rink, new lighting for the fields, a children’s water feature and other pool-area updates. The existing pool shell is in good condition and would not be replaced, according to the district.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Feb. 9 at the Oak Park Conservatory, 615 Garfield St.

Communications spokeswoman Diane Stanke said the park board is also considering two alternates for the sports fields. The first would include new grass, dog park replacement and the removal of the sled hill; the second would replace the existing field with synthetic turf.

Stanke said the Park District is hoping for a good turnout at the community meeting.
