People searching for the website of a soon-to-be-open gun shop on the southern border of Oak Park might find a blog highlighting gun violence instead.
Windy City Firearms, has received a business permit from Oak Park to open in the 3000 block of Roosevelt Road. Owner Justin Delafuente said the business model would have people ordering guns online or in person, which would be shipped to his store for pickup.
However, someone has scooped up windycityfirearms.com to start a blog about gun violence.
“I want to move the dialogue beyond the bipolar political rhetoric and look at the human aspect of gun violence,” the blog’s author, who has refused to identify himself or herself, said in an email to the Tribune. “I grew up with guns in my home, and witnessed gun violence firsthand. We deliberately chose to live in Oak Park because we wanted to live among people who for the most part share our values of social justice and nonviolence.”
The author would not elaborate on the gun violence he or she allegedly witnessed, opting to write a blog post about it later on.
The first blog post, which explains the purpose of the website, was dated Nov. 30. As of Sunday evening, there have been no other posts.
Delafuente could not immediately be reached for comment.
