Once again, Oak Park is receiving national accolades for its neighborhoods, this time being featured by Travel and Leisure Magazine as one of ten of “America’s Most Beautiful Neighborhoods” in the October issue. The magazine cites the historic Frank Lloyd Wright structures, as well as the walkable and bikeable feel of the village.

“It’s not just about the modest elegance of Frank Lloyd Wright, although he designed or built 23 structures in Oak Park, including his own studio,” the magazine wrote. “The Americana runs deeper here.”

Oak Park is the only neighborhood on the list that is an individual municipality, as the other nine are districts or neighborhoods within medium to large U.S cities, from New Orleans to New York City to Oklahoma City.

“Obviously, it’s nice to be recognized,” said Village President David Pope. “Oak Park is a wonderful place, as all of us who live here already know. But this is a nice opportunity to share with others the very special elements of our community.”

In 2010, Oak Park’s Frank Lloyd Wright Historic District earned a spot on a list of the nation’s 10 great neighborhoods. The American Planning Association, a nonprofit community organization, picked the area for its list, recognizing it as the “world’s single-greatest concentration of residences designed by architects representing the Prairie School style.”
