An Oak Park woman fought off a man who grabbed her by the neck early Saturday.
The woman was walking to the front door of her apartment on the 400 block of North Austin Boulevard at about 12:42 a.m. when a man grabbed her by the neck from behind, police said Monday. The woman began screaming and kicking the man, who immediately fled on foot.
The man is described as a 5 feet, 10 inches, about 180 pounds, wearing a black stocking cap, a light colored coat and gloves.
Police do not know why the man grabbed her by the neck because he never said anything to the woman and fled immediately after she resisted, Cmdr. LaDon Reynolds said. The woman was not injured.
The attack is similar to an incident March 28 when a different Oak Park woman was violently robbed behind a business by an attacker who surprised her from behind. The woman was put in a choke-hold and the man demanded money. She did not resist and turned over cash and a cell phone with a total value of $550. The victim never got a good look at the robber, so no description was available.
Reynolds said they are looking into both crimes, but declined to say if police believe the incidents are related.
