Nearly 400 NSSRA participants, their families and supporters of the local nonprofit gathered Aug. 12 in Northbrook to celebrate 40 years of fun, friendship and community made possible by NSSRA, the Northern Suburban Special Recreation Association. 

Founded in 1970, NSSRA serves more than 5,000 children and adults with physical, developmental, emotional or other disabilities living in its partner communities on the North Shore.
