March to a Million

It’s a WIN, WIN situation for Village Treasure House! During its March to a Million celebration Monday evening, Village Treasure House granted its millionth dollar to local nonprofit organizations serving women and families in crises.

When a handful of women gathered back in the fall of 1995 to consider opening a consignment shop of fine home furnishings, never did they imagine the scope of their vision would be so broad. Village Treasure House may not have changed the world, but it certainly has impacted the north shore communities with its generous gifts. The mission of Village Treasure House was and remains today, “To Serve Women and Families in Crisis.”

The first grants in 1998 totaled $6,000 and reached the $1,000,000 mark on September 19, 2011. Village Treasure House provides support to fifteen local non-profit organizations with twice yearly grants, that include Children’s Advocacy Center, Connections for the Homeless, Erika’s Lighthouse, Family Service Center, Haven Youth & Family Services, LINKS, Metropolitan Family Services, Midwest Palliative & Hospice CareCenter, Northfield Township Food Pantry, Shelter, Inc., The Harbour Inc., Wesley Child Care Center, WINGS, Youth Services of Glenview/Northbrook, and YWCA Evanston/North Shore Domestic Violence Services

The success of Village Treasure House is made possible by the dedication of over 100 volunteers and one paid managerial position shared by three women. The volunteers are of all ages, talents, experiences and faiths and come together to share in the mission “To help those in need.”

Village Treasure House serves as a convenient resource for those in need of selling or donating their fine home furnishings, and it also serves as a wonderful “find” for those in need of purchasing such items at greatly reduced prices. The shop has become a community gathering place for both volunteers and customers alike. Folks drop in just to browse or visit with the staff and volunteers.

This is an incredibly exciting time for the Village Treasure House to have reached the million dollar mark in grants given to various non-profits and look forward to gifting our next million dollars. Business is booming due to a lagging economy, which makes it a win, win situation for all involved.

Come visit our warehouse size showroom in Northbrook at 1460 Paddock Drive, across from the Glenview Target. The shop is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 AM to 5 PM. For more information visit our website www.villagetreasurehouse.com or call 847-832-1030.
