Peter Mayer is performing his third benefit concert for Northbrook's Heartland Animal Shelter on January 30th.

Take a break from a cold winters night for a warm night of music and laughter as Heartland Animal Shelter welcomes back Peter Mayer for his Third Annual Concert to benefit the cats and dogs at Heartland. The concert is scheduled for Saturday, January 30, 2010 at the Northbrook Theatre Northbrook Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue.

Minnesota-based Mayer has been playing the guitar and writing music full time since high school and has been touring full-time since 1995. Whimsical, humorous, and profound, his music breaks the boundaries of “folk”, and transcends to a realm beyond the everyday love song, to a place of wonder at the very fact of life itself.

This night is a great opportunity to enjoy some fun music and try out some awesome food (vegetarian-friendly), drinks and desserts, according to event organizer Melissa Patricelli. Peter Mayer offers a little bit of music for everyone from the beautiful and thought-provoking, to the light-hearted humorous songs, to some sing-along songs. He is donating the proceeds of the evening to the animals at Heartland.

Doors open at 6:15 pm with refreshments provided by the Uptons Naturals, Sweet Dreams Organic Bakery, eSutras, and Nature’s Cupboard. The concert begins at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door for adults and $5 for children. Tickets are available online at www.heartlandanimalshelter.net or by calling (847) 682-2286.

Enjoy appetizers, dessert, music, a cash raffle and buy a little Valentines Day treat from event sponsors. Those sponsors currently include Margies Natural Beauty, which features cruelty free and natural products for everyone-even your cat! To hear Peter Mayers music and learn more about him, go to www.petermayer.net.

Proceeds benefit Heartland Animal Shelter, a no-kill humane organization dedicated to finding homeless animals their forever homes while educating the public on spaying and neutering their pets in order to decrease pet over population. Because Heartland is a 501(c)3 organization, all donations are tax deductible.

Further information about the concert, adoption, volunteer opportunities and other upcoming events is at www.heartlandanimalshelter.net. Pets available for adoption may be found at www.petfinder.com. The event is sponsored by the friends and volunteers of Heartland, which is located at 2975 Milwaukee Avenue in Northbrook. Last year, Heartland found homes for nearly 1,100 animals.
