Greek students celebrate religion, education

Students at Aristotle Preschool and Kindergarten in Niles gathered Friday to celebrate education, their faith and religious leaders. During a "A Day in the Life of Aristotle School," dozens of students from 3 to 5 years old recited the days of the week, months and alphabet in both Greek and English. They also prayed and sang songs in front of family members and friends. The event honored the Three Hierarchs, or St. Basil the Great, St. John Crystosom and St. Gregory the Theologian. The trio are known as leaders of the Greek Orthodox Church and are revered for spreading literacy, education and faith. They also helped people understand how God is split into three parts — the Father, Son and the Holy Ghost, said the Rev. Dean Botsis. Though the Three Hierarchs each have individual feast days, they also share one day to show the importance of being united in the church, Botsis added.
