Sculptures invade Oakton campus
Oakton Community College's Des Plaines campus has been transformed into an art gallery with more than 40 sculptures as part of Sculpture Invasion 2010, a juried exhibition featuring the works of Chicago Sculpture International members.
Sculpture Invasion 2010 includes numerous large-scale sculptures throughout the Oakton Sculpture Park, which features more than 20 permanent works. Smaller sculptures also are on display in the college's Koehnline Museum of Art.
Featured artists include John Adduci, whose 12-foot tall "Wacko" embodies a pirate ship sailing the South China Sea, according to the college. Works by Bill Moll, Terrance Karpowicz, Victoria Fuller, Neil Goodman and Eric Lindsey also are featured.
Formed in 2004, CSIs more than 140 members work in many scales and mediums, from stone and steel to nylon and video.
The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. From June to August, the museum operates under summer hours from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
