Apna Ghar Celebrates Milestone in Journey of Hope against Domestic Violence

Lombard, IL: On Sunday, November 14th. Apna Ghar, a landmark institution for domestic violence victims, celebrated their 20th anniversary by hosting a fundraising gala at the Carlisle Banquet Hall with over 200 esteemed guests. The inspirational and moving night included an address from the Guest of Honor, researcher and activist, Dr. Margaret Abraham, dance performances from the Natya Dance Theater, as well as awards and delectable cuisine. Over $24,000 was raised to continue the exceptional programs and services that help and empower domestic violence victims.Apna Ghar Founders Kanata Khipple, Prem Sharma, Ranjana Bhargava, Lee Magalaya, and the Late Francis Kung, recognized the hopeless situations of abuse and helplessness that many immigrant women faced during the 1980s and unfortunately that many still face today. Compelled to do something, they started a domestic violence hotline, which over two decades has transformed into one of the strongest advocates for survivors of domestic violence in the Chicago land area.
