Journal and Topics Newspapers reports: Niles village trustees approved a local home rule sales tax hike from 1% to 1.25% last night (Tuesday) on a split vote after a lengthy debate.

Trustees Rosemary Palicki and Louella Preston voted to oppose the quarter percent tax hike.
