District 207 ACT scores fall

Jennifer Delgado, TribLocal reporter

Maine Township High School District 207′s composite ACT score dropped from last year, but is still above the state average.

The district’s composite score in 2010 was 22.5, down .4 from 2009. The state’s average is 20.7

The district did not immediately comment on the new scores, but will have an analysis of the information and a presentation on the exam at the Sept. 7 board meeting, said Dave Beery, district spokesman.

A total of 1,502 district students took the ACT this year, which is a requirement for all high school juniors in Illinois. Two students – Svilena Bochukova, a Maine West senior, and Michael Clarke, a Maine South senior – received a perfect score of 36 on the test.

Scores fell across the board in all test areas but also stayed above state averages.

The district’s composite scores were 22.1 in English and reading, 23.1 in math and 22.3 in science.

Despite the drop, scores were the same or improved from 2006, according to district records.
