The Lincoln-Way West Poms had an exciting weekend. Both the Varsity Poms and the Junior Varsity (JV) Poms earned first places in their divisions.

The Varsity Poms earned 1st place in Class AA Pom and Class AA Hip Hop regional finals, hosted by the West Warrior Poms and held at Lincoln-Way West on Saturday, February 11. The varsity squad is coached by Melissa Sweeney.

The JV squad captured 1st place in Division II Hip Hop at the JV State Finals competition held on Sunday, February 12 at Argo High School. The JV squad also won first place in JV Hip Hop at the Lincoln-Way West Invitational held on Saturday. The JV squad is coached by Anne Orlowski. The winning routine was choreographed by Lincoln-Way graduate Justine Haw.

“This is the first time in Lincoln-Way West history that a team has earned first place at the state level,” noted Sweeney.

“We are so proud of our girls! All of their hard work and effort has really paid off this season,” added Melissa Sweeney.

The Varsity Poms State contest will be held at the Peoria Civic Center on Sunday, March 4, 2012 in Peoria, Illinois.

Lincoln-Way West Junior Varsity Pom members are: Ali Johnson, Ashley Kowalsky, Hannah Sigrist, Beth Heise, Sarah McDonald, Alexia Velasquez, Andrea Zielinski, Morgan Richter, Nicole Sterr, Kristina Armamentos, Jenny Richardson, Meghan Baltas, Dominica Hart, Alyssa Burdick, Kari Molloy, Paige Zawislak, Sydney Novak, Carlee Wajchert, Erin Dolan, and Gabby Tanquilut.
