District #210′s nationally recognized Lincoln-Way Prospects travel baseball organization notched another milestone over Father’s Day weekend with the 11U Prospects completing a 5-0 record playing up an age level in the 12U Glen Ellyn Father’s Day Classic.
The organization has already taken on one of the toughest ranked schedules in the Midwest U.S. Region #4, but wanted to add to their strengths by playing up an age level before a week long break for the boys just to be boys during the summer. The Prospects organization annually schedules periodic downtime for all teams, at all age levels during the season as a courtesy to families for their tournament participation.
The 11U Prospects won the 12U Glen Ellyn Raiders tournament with decisive wins over Elmhurst, Wheaton and Rochelle in pool play. The young 11U Prospects had their toughest battle during the semi-final, defeating 12U Roselle 3-1. They went on to face another 11U top area team, the Illinois Sparks (Adams) in the championship game, and the Prospects won the game 13-3 capping off an undefeated weekend competing against 12 teams. Their pitching staff held opponents to six runs throughout tournament play.
“Our bats peaked in April and haven’t stopped since,” added Coach Steve Korbel. “We hit 14 home runs in this tournament, and for 11 year olds, it’s a solid shot when five balls travel 220-feet plus, and then five more go 250-feet plus over the fences. I am thrilled for the team and the families that had an exciting weekend of baseball,” concluded Korbel.
The Lincoln-Way Prospects maintain a state lead and regional lead with their 57-3 record to-date on the season, surpassing all previous Prospects’ team records in their first 60 games of a season, 75% which are tournament based. “We’re fortunate and have extra fun due to advancing in most tournaments we enter. This gives our kids extra weekend games on Sunday, convenient for our families rather than adding extra grueling weekday games. We’re thrilled to have the extra 15 games over most teams – it means we’re succeeding and getting more field experience for our players,” emphasized the coach.
The 11U Prospects record also includes a 4-0 record versus 12U programs, and a 7-1 record against the Kiii Elite Travel Network, which spans three States that travel to Illinois to play top teams. Their only losses are to ranked national teams, two of the three losses coming to the #7 and #15 national ranks with just a 1.50 run average loss ratio. The tournament caps the teams sixth tournament win on the season as they prepare for the Michigan Major Elite National Invitational in early July.
