Hugo Cabret Party!
What did we do at our Hugo Cabret book/movie party? The better question is what DIDN'T we do!
To start, our librarians led a great discussion of the book and the movie -- kids who were not familiar with either wanted to read the book and see the movie after we shared some fascinating stuff.
We then showed the original "A TRIP TO THE MOON," and Charlie Chaplin's "THE KID" on the big screen, (kids were amazed the former was over 100 years old); played a relay race of 'Match the Automaton screw to the correct bolt', and 'HotBOTtato' (pass the robot doll)-- 4 times!
The kids painted a moon plate and attached a rocket (like in the book and movie) and also made either a robot, Eiffel Tower, or something original out of marshmallows and pretzel sticks.
At the end, kids could choose from 3 activities: building MARBLEWORKS together, creating a tower out of Legos, or sketching portraits (like Brian Selznick did to create his characters in the book).
We filled the program room and had a blast! Thanks to everyone for participating!
