Warnings against swimming at Lake Michigan’s beaches continue into Friday afternoon as weather officials expect high waves and dangerous currents.
Beach hazards remain in effect till 1 p.m. as weather officials say swimming conditions will be life-threatening at beaches in northern and central Cook County, and Lake County, as well as beaches at the southern portion of the lake.
Waves reaching up to 6 feet are possible.
Officials said swimming would be extremely risky, especially for inexperienced swimmers, and warned against anyone venturing out onto piers, jetties or break walls.
There also was a slight chance of thunderstorms breaking out in the southwest portion of the Chicago area, officials said. A slight chance of thunderstorms also exists for portions of northwest Indiana.
Afternoon conditions at Midway Airport are overcast at 64 degrees, and at O’Hare International Airport conditions are the same.
