It is “inconceivable” to think the man accused of the weekend fatal stabbing in downtown Naperville could have been involved in such a crime, his pastor said this week.
“They’re a wonderful family,” said Bob Carden, pastor of Grace Christian Fellowship Church on Naperville’s west side. “Kind, Godly, friendly – just wonderful people.
“Honestly speaking, I would be hard-pressed to think of someone less likely to be violent,” Carden said of Daniel Olaska. “It’s inconceivable to me.”
Carden said the Olaska family has been a part of the church community for 25 years. Carden said he’s known the 27-year-old Naperville man charged with first-degree murder since he was just 2 years old. Olaska remains in DuPage County Jail in lieu of $3 million bail.
Following the news of the arrest and the death of Shaun Wild, a second-grade teacher at Naperville’s Spring Brook school, the church focused on praying for the Wild family first and foremost. Carden said they “have suffered the greatest tragedy of all.”
“We are simply praying for all of the families involved in this tragedy,” Carden said.
Carden said members of the church attended Olaska’s Sunday bond hearing for prayer and support. But the church is not trying to raise the $300,000 needed to release him from jail, he said.

I suspect that after weighing the impact to his church after a couple days of neg. press, this Pastor decided it was not in his best interest to continue to wholeheartedly support his faithful 25+ year members. God does not rank prayers in the order of first and foremost according to political correctness and buttering this statement with how kind the family is (which I have no reason to believe is not true) does not veil my eyes to the fact that this is a carefully crafted PR statement by a cowardly Pastor. The Olaska family deserves better.
