Before a rainy Benet Academy varsity football game Oct. 2, Jeff Schmittgens, a junior at Benet Academy in Lisle, accepted the Triblocal/Valley Honda Sports Player of the Month award.
In front of his peers, football team and family members, the 16-year-old defensive end received a plaque from Triblocal. The player was named as September’s winner. With the win, his school also will receive a $500 donation from contest sponsor Valley Honda of Aurora.
