West Aurora High School’s senior wrestler Mario Gonzalez was recognized as February’s Triblocal/Valley Honda Sports Person of Month award.
Gonzalez won February’s contest after being nominated by his school. With the win, the high school received a $500 donation from contest sponsor Valley Honda of Aurora. Bob Navarre of Valley Honda handed the athlete a big check in front of his fellow students and friends.

Gonzalez is not only one of the top wrestler’s in Illinois but he is also considered one of the best in the country. The 189-pound wrestler enters the post-season of his senior year with a four-year varsity record of 116-12. Gonzalez is already a three-time state qualifier and a two-time all-state wrestler after winning fourth in 2007 and third in 2008. Gonzalez will continue his education and his wrestling at the nationally-ranked University of Illinois, where he plans to study psychology.
