Do you comprehend what you read – or are your cerebral arteries already so clotted with animal fat and cholesterol that you cannot focus, name-calling your forte’ and conflict resolution of choice?
I am the ‘bugnuts crazy’ who made that post and I did not “wish” these conditions on you. The data is in and these are the most common diseases of all-American excess – you are doing it to yourselves, reaping the consequences of your own meat-laden lifestyle that begins with raising, then slaughtering animals. Period. Or do you childishly think that anyone’s ‘wishes’ can cause these conditions? If so, how old are you, and what developmentally delayed reality DO you inhabit? What I said was, you WILL remember these interactions when you get your first diagnosis. I stand by that.
You can’t say that no one told you. We former meat-eating, ‘bugnuts’ animal advocates tried – the medical professionals try – yet you scoff and belittle. Have at it. But how can you not remember this when you have your first cardiovascular event, your first chemo treatment….? When’s the last time you heard a Doctor say, ‘Hey, better cut back on your fruits and vegetables or die…!’ You haven’t, and you won’t. Quite the contrary. All we asked was that you take the first step toward compassion AND health this year and let those 4-H animals live in a sanctuary. What I ‘wish’ is that they were still alive and that you all were on the road to health and harmony via a delicious, plant – centered diet, not a self-indulgent, meat-centered one. Get out and try it for 6 weeks – you’ll feel so much better that you’ll want that to be your new, bugnuts normal! It beats a wheelchair s/p a stroke, an angioplasty or a colon re-section, a price that you all seem to want to pay for your ‘normal customs, your ‘normal’ traditions, and all the wishes and prayers in the world won’t change those ‘normal’ consequences.

‘Personal choice’ takes on a whole new meaning when ‘non-consensual’ and ‘death’ enter the equation! And this includes animals as well as humans – we do not make them the outrageous exception to common decency that you in animal agriculture do….
Our point entirely was that these 4-H animals, as well as most of the kids who raised them, had no choice, no true voice in the matter. We gave them that voice. You heard from us across the United States because in your particular instance the opportunity to take the animals to sanctuary in lieu of slaughter was a viable option. We former meat-eating animal rights advocates, above all people, realize all too well that animals are NOT the meat-machines that your tradition makes of them, no matter how well treated or factory-farmed they are prior to slaughter. Either way, they are murdered for ‘food’ not naturally meant for human consumption. If they were, you’d be anatomically equipped to eat them raw, blood, guts, and all without ill effects, including revulsion.
You won this battle – you took their precious lives – we knew that you would! Given your customary, power-over mentality, you must feel as victorious as we feel disappointed. We weren’t/aren’t blind, just hopeful, so we we tried to no avail as the world watched cruelty over compassion prevail. Again. However, having made your bodies the living graves for their dead flesh, the animals WILL win this war. Oh you WILL remember them, and us, when you have your first heart attack, your first stroke, your breast, colon and prostate cancers, your diabetes… You will remember when the physicians tell you to cut way back on your meat, eat more vegetables and fruits with your many, daily medications! These animals lost their lives but they will take the quality of yours one day and then you will recall our efforts, our points from A-to Z! It’s too late for them now and it will be too late for you then.

It has been said that, ‘Custom will reconcile people to any atrocity.’ By now it should be painfully obvious that the world beyond the immediate sphere of Illinois is watching to see whether Wagner Farm chooses compassion over cruelty as it’s new paradigm. Those who literally hold the power of life and death in their hands can look back as having made a pivotal, life-affirming changes to what could become a NEW, time-honored tradition. There’s a golden opportunity here to embrace and extend the tenets of ‘Thou Shalt Not Kill’ and ‘Do Unto Others” to ‘all’ beings, beginning this very day, with those pigs and those lambs…..
What will become of all these ‘food’ animals’ in the long run remains to be seen, but I know that there are legions of us more than ready to put these new ethics to action and to help work that out. Will you stand with us? Or will you wash your bloody hands of it? The world IS watching, and until the first precious lamb is slaughtered, there IS still time to be able to look back and say, ‘It was scary at first, but I was part of something wonderful and new!”

Dear Mike,
We realize you are likely going to kill your son’s lamb. We get that. You have the power of life and death over this matter. Period. In that respect, you win – the lamb, us busy-bodies, your son – we lose….. What truly haunts us AR types is that somebody, somewhere may be needlessly suffering, and yes, this includes the animals. Your 4-H pigs and lambs. Surely you have compassion for SOME type of animal – a family pet, perhaps? If so, then you have some sense of how we feel, even if you don’t agree with the scope of it……
Most of us vegetarians/vegans were not born into this worldview; quite the contrary. And some of us may very well be puritanical, some of us most definitely not – we of all ages range the political, religious, and economic spectrum as do folks from the farming communities…… What we do have in common is that our idea of happiness does not include butchering and eating animals. That said, most of us used to enjoy eating meat – I know I did – but we realized we loved the living animals more than the meat on our plate. Having been raised the way you are raising your boy, I for one know that you actually do mean well – but I admit, having been on both sides of the coin, I know there’s another, more compassionate way – a healthier way. I can’t deny that I wish you’d hold off on this slaughter and give it a chance to settle in. You all took his lamb to the slaughterhouse last year, right? Why not try the sanctuary this year, see which makes your son smile when you go to visit – see which decision he looks back and thanks you for when he is your age…. Please?
