  1. I’m not sure that a process intended to chill free speech and undermine independent thinking should have any greater consequences.

The District 86 Board hasn’t had a lot of independent thought for a very long time. I can see where it would scare the ‘rubber stamps’ on the Board if one of the members suddenly started thinking for themselves. Then to compound the horror by speaking publicly about independent thinking must drive the rest of the Board nuts.

  2. @Dr. Joe – That’s a ‘strawman’ argument you’re trying to pull off. No one has suggested a step backward, or a ‘return’ to anything. People who hold sincere, deeply-felt religious convictions don’t deserve being mocked by others.

And for your information, a greater percentage of Republicans in Congress supported the 1964 Civil Rights Act than did Democrats.

  3. “Data collection”. Another arm of government out to collect data on the citizenry. Why does that make me feel uneasy?

It’s only a matter of time before these ‘data collectors’ turn into ‘revenue generators’ as speed cameras. But like the other governments using speed and red-light cameras, we’ll be told it’s all about “safety.”

  4. It would be great if Hinsdale could spend the ten or eleven bucks it would cost to make their Web site compatible with browsers other than Internet Explorer.

They know it doesn’t work with Firefox, but can’t even be bothered to put a warning disclaimer on the page.

  6. Yeah, summer blend. That has to be it. It can’t be price-fixing or collusion. It must be the summer blend.

Gawd, they must really think consumers are dumber than bricks.

  7. Ka-Ching!

I suppose it could be worse. I just wish the PD would admit that its primary purpose is to raise village revenues.

  8. Both departments should be put where they belong – under the Revenue Departments of their respective towns.

That’s what ‘law enforcement’ has become for both – just another way to raise revenues.

  9. So the village paid NOTHING to build the shelter, and expects to spend little or nothing to maintain it.

So where’s the justification for raising permit fees? Oh, I forgot, Hinsdale is ‘fines and fees’ happy when it comes to raising village revenue.

  10. We’ve already proven that text messaging is so distracting that it’s a hazard when driving.

Students who are text messaging are not listening to what’s being said in class, and they are only vaguely aware of their surroundings as they walk down the halls.

This sounds like the school administration just decided to cave in and let the inmates run the asylum.
