  2. Well, I notice that one of my previous comments was apparently deleted, I’m thinking it hit a little too close to home, so you wouldn’t want others to see it. There was no vulgarity or name calling, just common sense and statement of fact. I’m thinking the facts were a little too hard to take BTW have you ever spoken to any of these “desensitized” “callous” children? I have. Do you really believe, as your comments seem to point to that this is some kind of cult? Do you really believe that all the parents involved are teaching their kids that “killing” animals is OK?…get a clue. I will ask the question I asked before, if you were all sooooo concerned about these animals, why weren’t you at the auction to buy them and “save” them? You talk the talk, but you do NOT walk the walk.

  3. Hello? you really call yourself a reporter? do you not know how an auction works? Buddy was NOT “on the auction block” for 4 hours. The ENTIRE auction took about four hours, that was for pigs, goats, lambs and beef cattle…ALL of them! To auction one animal takes no longer than about 5 min. And as for the price being “fair enough” here again you show your ignorance about how an auction works. The person auctioning something off, in this case livestock, does not dictate what price they will get; the people who are bidding determine how much they will pay. When the auctioneer asks for the final bid, that’s it! Perhaps you should actually GO to an auction before you try to report on one. Perhaps you should raise livestock before you try reporting on what exactly a 4H kid does or does NOT do, how they feel what they think. Silly me, I thought that is what reporters actually did – report – factual information, not fabricate out of whole cloth. Oh well, learn something new everyday.

Oh and BTW, where was Ms. Rubinstein and all of her cronies when those poor horses in McHenry County REALLY were being abused and malnourished? Why isn’t she out at O’Hare picketing against the airline that allowed those poor little puppies to die?….this woman REALLY needs to “get a life” that does not involve children, 4Hers or any others….she is so clueless about parenting, kids, true values, etc.

  7. OK, here’s the question for you: If you were soooooo concerned about what would happen to these animals, why didn’t you come to the auction and buy them? It was a public auction and anyone could buy these animals and do whatever they wanted with them. Where were you? Instead of jumping up and down asking what happened, why didn’t you ENSURE that you got the outcome you wanted.

And as to taking a “field trip” to a “slaughterhouse” as you insist on calling it, although the correct term is a processing plant, it is illegal to do so. Are you saying that the 4H club should teach their children to engage in illegal activity? Hmmmm? I wonder.

Oh and by the way, yes, some of the children did escort their animals on to the truck. Was it easy? Hell, no! But, these kids, unlike many, are mature, thoughtful kids who wanted to give their animals the best until the end. Read the stats on what type of citizens many 4H kids grow up to be; civil leaders, better GPA than many, advocates for animals and farming, go ahead check it out. These kids will grow up to be some of the leaders in the next generation and I, for one, couldn’t be happier that they will. God bless ‘em!
