@jimr45 It’s nauseating that people like you still stick to outdated social concepts of what’s right and wrong. Sounds a lot like the GOP and the right-wing desire to get things back to 1950 where nobody was gay, black people sat in the back of the bus, and Jesus was almighty.
Get a grip, colleges are SUPPOSED to be places for provocative thinking and progressive ideas. It sounds like you would rather Elmhurst College was a church rather than a place of higher learning.
I applaud the school for bringing in Dan Savage. I question why the Triblocal article was about some nut-job who’s probably in denial about his own sexuality.

Good for Barrington to realize the only rational way to pay for something is a higher levy. Our taxes are at historic 60+ year lows, and our towns are going bankrupt. If you listen to the T-baggers you’d think our taxes were higher than ever — WRONG!
Sometimes governments (local and federal) need to raise taxes, fact of life kids. You can’t keep cutting and cutting and still expect governments to survive – go see what the anti-tax nut jobs did to Colorado Springs if you don’t believe me.

Too bad this article refers to BETA – a borderline racist organization that sends out anonymous mailers all over barrington.
What’s ironic is that the photo of the author is at the library that BETA doesn’t think we need. It also is about real estate prices which are tied to good schools, which BETA doesn’t believe we should invest in.
Why bring the hate-filled anti-tax nut jobs into a story about real estate prices?

When will it stop? Whatever moron want’s Palin for president deserves to live in a country with…well…Palin as their president. I, and hopefully a majority of educated, sane, logical individuals would like anything but. Palin for president is fulfilling the ‘Reality TV as Real Life’ destiny of our country. Why not elect Kate Goslin as president? I’m sure she’s filled with some really great ideas. Palin lacks nearly every conceivable skill and ability needed to be president. Have the right wing loonies gone so far off the deep end that they can’t even recognize this? Nice ‘Grand old Party’ you have. Looks like fear mongering is your business, and business is good.
I can’t wait until every nutter in Barrington has their Palin signs out for the next 2 years. Ugh.

OK Genius. Perhaps you missed the observation that we have no fewer than 3 holidays on the books to celebrate our armed forces and our freedom: Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Independence Day. Why do you want to invent another one? And while I think Hummer driving, rifle toting, camouflage wearing men and women are just fine driving down the road in Kabul, they have no place in Barrington. Doing it in Barrington is no different than the May Day demonstrations of might for Stalin or Kruschev. It’s a show of force to prove to yourself how great and powerful you are. Enjoy your fascist-fest comrade!

‘Family Friendly’? Please! This event is only friendly if you ascribe to the right wing nutology. The organizers, including extreme right winger Dick Beverage want nothing more than to push their extremist agenda. I wouldn’t be surprised if a tea-bagger, err, ‘tea party’ broke out in the middle of their Hummer driving, rifle-toting, camouflage wearing homage to all things jingoistic.
How about celebrating our troops on any of the established holidays that already exist, like Veterans Day, Memorial Day, and Independence Day? Why invent your own holiday to be held on 9/11?
‘Fascist Festival’ is a travesty of Barrington’s local government, an embarrassment, and a good weekend to leave town.
