  1. So, instead of a homegrown, local business, COD is opting to let a huge (crappy) food service company profit from the space. Everything for those with clout and dough, and the little guy gets the shaft. So unfair, so stupid.

Good luck to you, Fran – they would have kicked you out eventually anyway. The big boys can’t let any of us have even the crumbs.

  2. @barbyr Sally Ride is right: It’s similar to the book titled: “Eats shoots and leaves.”

Yay Sally, for calling out the writer. It is a privilege to write for the masses — even if you’re doing it gratis. The writer owes it to the audience to be accurate not only in facts but in presentation. At the very least, the correct use of the language makes the writer more credible.

    Sally,

    A. The part in quotes is not what the reporter says. The part outside of the quotes is what the reporter says. What is wrong with the grammar or punctuation of “Waldron said with a smile”? It looks like you’re the one in need of a refresher course in grammar and punctuation.

    B. It seems you require more of a breakdown of the simple English sentence. Llamas do three things, according to what Waldron states:

    1. Eat hay and grass.
    2. Poop.
    3. Grow hair.

Note that grass and hay are what they eat. Why do you think they eat poop? Do you also think they eat hair?

  5. ““They’re very low-maintenance animals. They eat hay and grass, poop and grow hair,” Waldron said with a smile.

I’m thinking this reporter needs a refresher course in grammar and punctuation. I don’t think these things eat poop.

  6. @centre21 Really? You can’t separate the two issues?

I was commenting on the “reporter” who shaded the facts to sensationalize a headline. It was easy for you to find out there’s no such thing as a bacon milkshake, and I have little doubt the reporter knew it, too. But “bacon sundae” does not have the pizzaz she wanted. Either that, or she was just mindlessly repeating something she’d heard somewhere else, which is nearly as bad.

    Which is it, Ms. Fuller?

Ps. Brian, you don’t need to shout.

  7. @barbyr Really? This is what you’re concerned about? Whether or not the reporter said that they had bacon milkshakes? THEY LEFT A GIRL WHO DIED IN THEIR PRESENCE IN A VAN WHILE THEY ATE AND “CONTINUED TO PARTY”.

And to be accurate, during this time of Baconalia at Denny’s, they do offer bacon sundaes. It could be that the accused described them as “milkshakes”. It’s not too much of a stretch to think that people who wouldn’t think much about a girl who OD’d in their presence wouldn’t really care much about calling anything that involves ice cream and a tall glass a “milkshake”.

  8. Denny’s does not serve bacon milkshakes. Never did. This reporter chooses to lie rather than lose her carefully crafted headline.

  9. “The Department of Corrections failed Mr. Gallatin,” MacArthur said. “We’re asking the court to give Mr. Gallatin a light at the end of the tunnel.”

The only light at the end of the tunnel this deviant deserves is the bright light as he nears death.

  10. Excellent piece, @dennissullivan. Great to see our law enforcement people working together to protect our country’s residents. They worked swiftly.

I was involved for many years with street gang outreach in central Illinois. Vice Lords, Latin Kings mostly. Difficult situations: Lots of young teens manipulated by older thugs. Still, no matter how awful their back story is, crime is crime.

As far the derisive, uninformed editorial comment by @barbyr (Sally Ride), try Googling “transnational street gangs” as a contiguous phrase. It is the accurate term.
