As part of Tom & Eddie’s commitment to community, a nine day fundraiser for District 99 Education Foundation will take place at the Lombard restaurant from Friday, Nov. 4 – Saturday, Nov. 12, at 348 Yorktown Shopping Center (The Shops on Butterfield) in Lombard.

District 99 encompasses Downers Grove High Schools North and South, and the foundation’s motto is to “…enhance education with enrichment." The organization has raised and disbursed thousands of dollars in “learner grants” to North and South high-school teachers for projects outside of standard budgets. Past grants helped supply extra equipment for the photography department and resources to create a healing garden that is accessible to disabled students.

For nine days, Tom& Eddie’s will donate 10 percent of net sales from customers who mention District 99 or who have a flyer. Why nine? There are nine signature burgers on the menu and, at Tom & Eddie’s, everything is done by the “nines.”

“Tom & Eddie’s is just so great for the community,” said Martha Merilos, vice president of the foundation. “They approached us for this fundraiser, and we are all thrilled.”

Downers Grove North’s Direct Action student group will assist with serving at Tom & Eddies on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 4 and 5, while Downers Grove South’s Key Club members will serve on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 11 and 12.

Which weekend will result in the most funds raised? A good spirited rivalry may result, so students and parents, come support your school!
