On December 4th and 5th, the Sears Center in Hoffman Estates was home to more than 175 cheerleading teams from across the Chicago Metropolitan area battling it out for the coveted first place trophy at the 3rd annual Illinois Recreational Cheerleading Association (IRCA) State Championship. Amongst those teams were five of Lombard’s very own Falcons. After an action packed first day of jumps, stunts and dancing, four of the teams advanced to the Championship Round on Sunday, where the Lombard Falcons came out on top! The 83lb (3rd grade), 133lb (7th grade) and Varsity (8th grade) teams were named State Champions in the pom division and the 93lb (4th grade) team took third place in cheer.

“This has been an incredible season filled with many great victories for all the Lombard Falcons cheerleaders,” said cheer athletic director and 83lb coach, Missy Kast. “It’s amazing to have it end on such a high note, and it’s a true testament to the wonderful program Lombard has built for its youth athletes.”

This is not the first time the Lombard Falcons cheerleaders have tasted victory this season. All of these teams qualified for the State Championship by placing at various IRCA regional events throughout the season including the Bill George Youth Football League (BGYFL) Competition held on October 23rd at York High School where every Lombard Falcons team placed in the top three in their respective divisions.

Not only has it been a victorious season for the cheerleaders, but for the football players as well. This season, nine teams made it to the BGYFL playoffs and two of which were crowned Super Bowl Champions: 103lb (5th grade) and 118lb (6th grade).

“We are very proud of all our athletes and coaches this season,” said Lombard Falcons president, Larry Wedoff. “Their commitment to excellence and dedication to their teams has truly paid off and brought great pride to our town.”

The Lombard Falcons, a member of the Bill George Youth Football League, are a volunteer, non for profit organization funded by participation fees, fundraisers, donations and sponsorships. The league offers boys and girls, ages 6-14, the opportunity to participate in organized football and cheerleading.
