Montini Catholic Congratulates its 3-Peat State Champion Football Team at an All-School Pep Rally
Montini Catholic High School's Varsity Football Program celebrated its 3rd Straight State Championship at an all school pep-rally on Friday, December 2nd. The school began the pep rally by recognizing all of the school's fall sports successes, including the Girls Cross Country Team's 3rd Place State Finish.
The Broncos exceeded all expectations when they defeated Joliet Catholic 70-45 in the IHSA Class 5A Football State Championship at Memorial Stadium at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. This game alone broke 13 Team State Records and 9 Individual State Records.
As a team, the Broncos broke State Records for "The Most Touchdowns" with 10; "The Most Points Scored" with 70 points; "The Most Offensive Yards" with 853 yards; and "The Most First Downs" with 33.
Individual State Records were broken by Bronco Quarterback John Rhode with "The Most Completed Passes" at 29; "The Most Total Yardage Thrown" at 587 yards; and "The Most Thrown Touchdowns" at 7. Senior, Jordan Westerkamp, also broke some Individual State Records with "The Most Caught Touchdown Passes" at 5; "The Most Receiving Yards" at 331 yards; and "The Longest Touchdown Reception" at 94 yards. Jordan was already the State leader in "Most Career Receiving Yardage" and "Most Career Touchdowns", but when he caught 11 passes, Jordan tied for the "Most Career Catches" in State at 234 career catches.
Franklin Bruscianelli also broke the "Most Total Tackles" in a State game with 18.
At the Pep Assembly, Coach Andriano commented on their success: "We broke many offensive records at this State Championship Game, and in the history of the IHSA, but we won this game as a team. We have very talented individual players, but we couldn't have won these titles without the hardwork and effort of this entire team as a whole."
