Kiwanis After Dark A Shinning Success
The Kiwanis Club of Lombard, which usually meets on Thursdays at 7:30 AM at Egg Harbor Caf in Yorktown, held its first After Dark meeting for the 2009-10 Kiwanis Year. The club has voted to host four After Dark meetings to provide an opportunity for members, or potential members, who cannot attend in the AM to network, do service, and enjoy fellowship.
This time, under the direction of Barb Muzzey, their 2009-10 Club President, the members created an Appreciation Banner for the ladies at Lexington Square in Lombard who assist the club with their Hospital Doll Project. The gingerbread shaped dolls, made of soft cloth, are used by Doctors Without Borders as a communications tool with children they treat that may speak a different language from the doctors. The dolls have also been used by doctors who volunteer with the Sunshine Train and have been distributed during Mission Trips and sent to an orphanage in Mexico. To date, the Lexington Dolls, as Kiwanis Club member lovingly refer to the ladies at Lexington, have created OVER 4000 dolls.
