Taste of Lombard was nearly canceled last year because of a tight village budget, but it is back again this year with little controversy.
The five-day festival will take place from 5 to 11 p.m. June 30 and July 1 and from noon to 11 p.m. July 2, 3, and 4 at Madison Meadows Park on Madison street near Lewis avenue.
A practice started last year of charging an admission fee to offset costs will continue, and it has been increased this year. The fee last year was $2 for anyone 12 and up. This year, it is $3 for attendees age 10 and up.
The village will kick in up to $82,000 to the festival, and the Lombard Jaycees, which organizes the event, will reimburse the village for its costs.
Another change organizers are planning for this year is adding more local vendors including Jamba Juice and Lombard-based My Pizza. Other restaurants taking part include Greek Delights, Lee’s Concession, Suzie’s Fun Foods, Windsor Ice Cream, BoJo’s, Gelato Italiano, Ayala’s Cocina, Gianorio’s, Dippin’ Dots, Genoa Italian Concession, Salt Creek BBQ, RS Concessions, BBQ’d Productions, T&S Concessions, Ellyn’s, Lopez Concession, J’s Food Service and Strawberry Patch.
Dan Piper, chairman of the event, said the Jaycees also have tried to increase the level of musical entertainment at the fest by bringing in local bands that are on the rise in popularity and other bands that are known nationally.
Lucky Boys Confusion will perform at 9:30 pm. July 2, Slaughter will take the stage at 9 p.m. July 3 and Lounge Puppets will perform at 8:30 p.m. July 4.
The Fourth of July fireworks will be held at about 9:30 p.m. July 4.
Proceeds from the Taste of Lombard go to support local schools and charities.
Carnival passes are $20 and provide unlimited rides from 5 p.m. to close on Thursday and Friday and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Free shuttle buses will operate between Madison Meadow Park and three remote parking lots: Madison Elementary School, Pleasant Lane Elementary School and Glenbard East High School. Shuttle buses run 7 to 11:30 p.m. June 30 and July 1, and 4 to 11:30 p.m. July 2, 3, and 4.
