A 47-year-old man died Monday in a fireworks accident in Addison, DuPage County Coroner’s office officials said Tuesday.
Larry Przybyla, of the 21W700 block of Park St. near unincorporated Addison, was pronounced dead at 7:16 p.m. Monday, according to the coroner’s office.
Addison Police said they responded to a report that someone suffered a fatal injury as a result of igniting fireworks in the parking lot at 2300 Windsor Court in Addison shortly after 7 p.m. Police said Przybyla suffered a head injury.
A neighbor said he heard a loud boom in the early evening.
“It (the boom) was so big. It scared the hell out of me,” the neighbor said.
Bill Whiteman, a friend of the family, described Larry Przybyla as a big-hearted guy who always had a smile on his face.
“It’s a devastating thing for the family,” Whiteman said. “It’s a close-knit family. Larry was a very generous guy – salt of the earth.”
The coroner’s office will continue its investigation, which will include toxicology tests. Results are expected in four to six weeks.
