Libertyville’s James Tyrrell
Wins Libertyville Sports Complex
12-Inch Softball Home Run Derby Championship
LIBERTYVILLE, IL (November 9, 2010) Libertyville resident James Tyrrell blasted several “tape measure” home runs en route to winning the Championship of the first-ever “Libertyville Sports Complex 12-Inch Softball Home Run Derby Challenge” on Sunday November 7th at the Libertyville Sports Complex Softball Field.
Tyrrell won the title by belting out 5 home runs in the Championship Finals Sunday night under the lights, besting the other four (4) finalists. Each Finalist had six-outs to produce as many home runs possible and each Finalist brought their own designated pitcher to help their performance.
But Tyrrell, swinging for the fences before his Libertyville family and friends, wowed the crowd with his long-distance power performance.
“James Tyrrell really put on a ‘slugging show’ in winning our Championship”, said Conrad “Connie” Kowal, Director of the Libertyville Recreation & Sports Complex department. “James not only wins the 1st Place Trophy but has bragging rights as he will be remembered as the first-ever Champion of the Libertyville Sports Complex 12-Inch Softball Home Run Derby Challenge. We now have a “defending champion” for the 2011 competition.”
For his championship efforts, Tyrrell received the 1st place Trophy, a $50 check, and a $10 golf pass to the Libertyville Sports Complex Golf Driving Range.
James Huitt of Zion came in 2nd place and Ryan Masek of Volo finished in 3rd place as a result of an “extra innings” tie-breaker that lasted 3 extra innings. The other Finalists, Chad Strange of Lake Villa and Austin Fied of Round Lake Beach finished tied for 4th place.
Each contestant had advanced to the Finals as a result of their success in earlier qualifying rounds conducted from October 24-November 4.
