Vernon Hills tried to overcome a host of first-half problems Wednesday against Libertyville.

The most important of which was trying to figure out a way to outscore Libertyville’s Alex Haley, who had 16 of her game-high 20 points in the first half to lead Libertyville to a 47-32 victory against Vernon Hills in the North Suburban Conference championship game.

The Cougars didn’t outpoint Haley until scoring on four consecutive possessions early in the third quarter. By then the Wildcats (21-7) were comfortably ahead en route to their third conference title in a row.
