Ruffled Feathers was the place to be on Saturday February 5, 2011 when the Lemont community came together to support the public elementary schools in town. The event, organized by the School District 113A Educational Foundation, and billed as a “Pre-Bowl Bash”, was attended by more than 230 Lemont community members, including parents, teachers, staff and friends of the Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A. The crowd danced to tribute band, “The Neverley Brothers”, played in a bean-bag tournament, and bid on many auction and raffle items. A highlight of the evening was the screening of the Chicago Bears’ “Superbowl Shuffle” performed by students and staff from all the district’s schools.
The event raised $19,000, which will provide funding for specific educational activities for staff and students that would not normally be provided by the school district’s operating funds.
Michele Metzler, organizer of the evening, commented, “We are humbled and honored by the incredible support and generosity of the Lemont community. They say it takes a village to raise a child – it is our Village of Lemont!”
The event was to raise funds for the School District 113A Foundation, whose mission is “to provide financial and other resources to support education, innovation and enrichment in pursuit of academic excellence for the SD113A community”. The Foundation is a not-for-profit 501 (C) 3 organization that “provides funds beyond the normal operating budget of the school district for specific educational programs and activities for students and staff”.
This was the third major event the Foundation has held since it was formed in the summer of 2010.
