Local Athletes Represent Illinois at the 2010 National Special Olympics Games.

Kyle Lindblom of Homer Glen and Scott Wells of Lockport attended a try-out for the 2010 National Special Olympics Games and were chosen to be members of the Team Illinois Men’s Softball team. Lindblom and Wells attended several training camps and practices in preparation for the National Games. The games were held on the campus of the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska July 18th – 23rd 2010.

 

Team Illinois was in a division with Alabama, Iowa, Nebraska and Ohio. On July 19th in the Preliminary Round, Team Illinois faced Nebraska and defeated them 15-5. The second game of the day, Team Illinois was loosing to Alabama. Team Illinois had a great inning offensively and defensively and came away with a 11-10 victory. In their final game of the Preliminary Round on July 20th, Team Illinois beat Iowa with another close score, 11-9.

 

In the first game of the Seeding Round Illinois defeated Alabama 20-5. Seeding games continued on July 21st where Team Illinois came out ahead beating Iowa 19-13. The second game of the day Team Illinois lost to the powerhouse Ohio 24-8. With the finals set to begin on July 22nd, Team Illinois faced Iowa and won with the score of 20-5. In the championship game Illinois faced the unbeatable Team Ohio. Although Team Illinois never gave up, then did come up short, loosing again to Ohio 15-1.
