A 40-year-old downstate Cullom man involved in a three-vehicle crash in March has been charged with reckless homicide, police said Friday.
Katherine Walker-Hoffman, 56, of Lake Barrington was getting into a car on March 24 when a vehicle driven by Thomas G. Murphy, of the 200 block of East Jackson Street, Cullom, was heading southbound on U.S. Route 12 and left the roadway near Honey Lake Road, according to Lake Zurich Police Commander Kevin Finlon.
Murphy’s vehicle crashed into Hoffman and the second vehicle, Finlon said. The second vehicle was pushed into a third car parked in front of it, Finlon said.
Murphy, and two other individuals were transported to Good Shepherd Hospital by the Lake Zurich Fire Department for treatment, police said.
The Lake County States Attorney Office and Major Crash Assistance Team of Lake County assisted the Lake Zurich Police Department in the investigation of the crash, according to a news release. The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved the criminal and traffic charges and an arrest warrant was subsequently prepared and approved.
Murphy was taken into custody at his home by members of the Lake Zurich Police Department on Thursday. He was taken to the Lake Zurich Police Station and is being held on a $1 million bond, police said.
He has been charged with reckless homicide, a class three felony, and three counts of driving under the influence of drugs, a class two felony, according to a news release. The drug Murphy was using was cannabis, Finlon said.
