UPDATE: Sheriff’s office identifies woman killed in Lake Zurich crash

Katherine W. Hoffman, 56, of Lake Barrington, died from injuries related to a three-vehicle crash at 2:50 p.m. on March 24 in Lake Zurich, officials said.

According to Lake Zurich Police Commander Kevin Finlon, Hoffman was getting into a car when a vehicle driven by a 40-year-old Chatsworth man was heading southbound on U.S. Route 12 and left the roadway near Honey Lake Road.

His vehicle crashed into Hoffman and the second vehicle. The second vehicle was pushed into a third car parked in front of it, Finlon said

The driver of the first vehicle was transported to Good Shepherd Hospital by the Lake Zurich Fire Department for treatment of injuries sustained in the collision, police said. Police requested that the driver provided a blood sample for analysis to determine if alcohol or drugs were a factor. No charges had been filed by Tuesday.

Two individuals requiring medical assistance were treated by the Lake Zurich Fire Department and transported to Good Shepherd Hospital.

Additional officers from neighboring agencies were called to assist with the ongoing investigation, Finlon said.

“For major crashes with serious injuries or fatalities, Lake County has the Major Crash Assistance Team so we can get people with expertise out to get assistance with the investigation and traffic,” Finlon said.

Police are not releasing the name of the driver as the investigation continues, Finlon said.
