On January 1, 2012, physicians and patients in Lake County will have new advocates for their health. New physician leaders for the Lake County Medical Society (LCMS) – a nonprofit association that works for the betterment of public health — take office on New Year’s Day. The new officers were elected at the LCMS annual meeting, held December 12, 2012 at Lovell’s of Lake Forest.
Rebecca Bergman, MD, MPH, is the incoming LCMS president. Board certified in pediatrics, Dr. Bergman earned her Medical Doctorate at University of Illinois at Chicago. She also has a Masters of Public Health, Community Health Services, from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr. Bergman earned her Bachelor of Science in Biological Chemistry at Tulane University, and completed her pediatric residency at Christ Hospital and Medical Center/Hope Children’s Hospital in Oak Lawn. Dr. Bergman practices in Lincolnshire, IL.

Aside from the election of new officers, LCMS members were treated to a presentation from Steve Byers and Nancy Williamson from the Friends of Hackmatack. According to Mr. Byers, the Lake County area supports the highest concentration of the state’s endangered and threatened species.
Friends of Hackmatack is working to establish the Hackmatack National Wildlife Refuge in the northeastern Illinois and southeastern Wisconsin. The refuge will conserve the area’s unique natural landscapes, plants and wildlife; link existing open space areas; create recreational opportunities and provide long-term economic benefits to the residents of our region.
