Saluting American Legion McKinlock Post 264 for its service to Lake Forest youth and veterans
My Photo Gallery reflects my visit to the American Legion McKinock Post 264 on the occasion of its December monthly dinner meeting in 2011. The extended story of my visit to Post 264 is posted under the same heading: "Saluting American Legion McKinlock Post 264 for its service to Lake Forest youth and veterans."
Bob Pommer, a long-time member of Post 264, past Commander in 2004, and currently Chaplin, was my host. Mr. Pommer enlightened me about the many activities and events Post 264 contributes to the community of Lake Forest, its youth, and its veterans.
Taken for granted by most are the between 500 and 600 flags put up in both east and west Lake Forest nine times a year by Post 264. Post 264 support also includes, among others volunteer activities, Legion Baseball open to junior and senior High School students; a Winter Ice Carnival held at the Lake Forest College hockey rink; Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies; scholarships for Lake Forest High School students; a Boy Scout Troop and Cub Scout Pack; and CROYA.
Lake Forest Day is an important Post 264 event. A fun-filled Carnival for the whole family in West Park, held the night before and on parade day, is the Post's main source of revenue.
Highlights of the visit was the installation of the new Post 264 Officers for 2012 (Tom Marks was installed as commander for his second term.); the privilege to interview several of the veterans present, and hearing the Bel Canto singers from Lake Forest High School perform a Capella holiday songs as the entertainment of the night.
If the many outstanding Post 264 funded activities seem worthwhile to you as they did to me, what could be more patriotic than supporting your hometown veterans with a monetary contribution to help fund its many activities.
Contributions would be appreciated and can be sent to P.O. Box 264 in Lake Forest, 60045, made out to Lake Forest American Legion McKinlock Post 264. Donations are tax-deductible.
