In response to the recent deaths of two Lake Forest High School students who were struck by Metra trains, Principal Jay Hoffmann sent parents an email Wednesday afternoon outlining the school’s next steps.
Hoffmann wrote that the school is assembling a new team to help the school cope with the losses. The group will be comprised of parents, police and members of local teen organizations, along with administrators and teachers from the high school, Lake Forest District 67 and Lake Bluff District 65.
“We will be exploring local and national resources to best support our student, faculty and parent community now and in the future,” Hoffmann said.
He also wrote that the district has reached out to counselors and social workers from other area schools that have experienced similar tragedies.
The principal added that social workers, teachers and counselors met with individual freshman classes on Wednesday and will be on hand to talk to students this week.
On Friday, an Institute Day, teachers and administrators will meet to discuss the tragedies, he wrote.
At about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, freshman William Laskero-Teskoski was struck and killed by a Metra train in the 1400 block of Western Avenue, near the high school.
On Jan. 9, sophomore Farid Hussain died more than a mile away after he was hit by a train.
