Lake Forest City Council approved a special-use permit for Woodlands Academy of the Sacred Heart, which mans the all girls school can expand its boundaries onto Barat College property.

The unanimous vote also paves the way for the historic Old Main building to be demolished. But the council still has to vote on that later in the year as well as whether to allow Woodlands to build on the land.

The 23-acre Barat property, which has been vacant since 2005, was purchased in December. The owners are donating it to the college and want to raze Old Main, located at 700 Westleigh Road, city officials said.

Old Main, the former Barat College’s administrative building, had been on the city’s historic preservation list before the council had it removed last year.
