The NCAA Women’s College Cup had its share of area talent in the Final Four.
Stanford nipped Duke, 1-0, to win the national title Sunday in front of a crowd of more than 9,000 in Kennesaw, Ga.
Eclipse Elite Soccer Club alumna Rachel Quon of Lake Forest is a junior defender who helped keep the Blue Devils off the scoreboard.
“There were a lot of emotions afterward, I can’t even explain it,” Quon said in Eclipse news release. “I’m just proud of my team, that we were able to finish it off this year. This team has never worked this hard over the last year, going back to when we lost last year (1-0 to Notre Dame in the championship) and coming back in the winter and spring. It’s incredible that we finally got that championship.”

Quon’s former Lake Forest High School teammate Nicole Lipp was on Duke’s squad. While Lipp didn’t score in the championship, she helped the Blue Devils with an assist in a 4-1 victory over Wake Forest Friday in the semifinals and was named to the All-Tournament team.
In the other semifinal contest, Stanford knocked off Florida State, 3-0. Florida State featured Libertyville native Jessica Price, who attended Vernon Hills High School, and backup goalkeeper Taylor Vancil, who attended St. Charles North. Price played 45 minutes off the bench and Vancil played the final five minutes.
