The Will County Democratic party at its Feb. 8 meeting elected two people to the committee charged with picking the individual who will replace state Sen. AJ Wilhelmi.

Wilhelmi has taken a job with the Illinois Hospital Association and said he expects to resign later this month.

Precinct committee members voted for Dan Maher of Joliet and Ruby Lofton of Bolingbrook, said Dennis Grosskopf, president of the Will County Democratic party. Grosskopf will serve as the third member of the committee as determined by state law.

The group must make a decision about a replacement within 30 days after Wilhelmi resigns. The senator has not made an announcement about his resignation date, though he said two weeks ago that he will start his new position later this month.
