Joliet Catholic grad killed in I-80 crash

A 2000 Joliet Catholic Academy graduate was killed after her car swerved off Interstate Highway 80 early Friday, officials said.

Theresa Lang, 29, of Minooka, was pronounced dead at about 3 a.m., according to the Will County Coroner’s Office.

Lang’s younger sister is currently a Joliet Catholic senior and she has a cousin who is a sophomore at JCA, said Bill Scheibe, a school spokesman.

Illinois State Police said the incident appears to be weather related as the roads were snowy and icy early Friday.

Officials said she was driving westbound on I-80 in Troy Township near Joliet when she lost control of her 1999 Ford Explorer and drove into the right ditch, state police said. Her vehicle rolled over and struck a tree.

She was pronounced dead at the scene, state police said. She was the only occupant of the vehicle and wearing a seatbelt.

Shortly before on westbound I-80, a separate crash killed Andres Pita-Jimon, 29, of Chicago near U.S. Route 30 in New Lenox, officials said. He was driving a 2000 Chervolet Cavalier when he lost control and spun into the path of a semi truck driven by a 51-year-old LaPorte, Ind., man.

Pita-Jimon also was wearing his seat belt and the only person in the vehicle.
