The winning word was m-o-z-z-a-r-e-l-l-a.

That’s the word that Nina Montello, a sixth-grader at Cathedral of St. Raymond in Joliet, spelled correctly to win the Will County Spelling Bee Tuesday night at Lewis University.

Coming in second was Tyler Richart, who attends Trinity Christian School and third place was Ashley Soper, a student at Wilmington Middle School.

Montello qualifies to go to the 84th Annual Scripps National Spelling Bee Finals, to be held June 1-2 in Washington, D.C. The spelling bee was sponsored by ComEd, who will pay her expenses to travel to the finals.
