A Burbank man has been charged with misdemeanor theft after allegedly trying to steal four racing car tires Saturday night from the winning team at the Chicagoland Speedway.
Andrew W. Browne, 30, of the 8500 block of South New England Avenue, allegedly took an unattended Target Ganassi IndyCar tire cart while Driver Dario Franchitti and his team were celebrating their Peak Antifreeze and Motor Oil Indy 300 win.
Joliet Deputy Police Chief Mike Trafton said crew members spotted Browne with the cart around 10:30 p.m., pursued him, and held him until police arrived.
Though the tires were estimated to have a total value of $10,000, the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office felt the charges were appropriate given circumstances, said spokesman Chuck Pelkie.
“Obviously there was some alcohol involved,” Pelkie said. “He didn’t get very far.”
Browne, who had no prior criminal history, was free today on $3,000 bail. A pre-trial hearing was set for Sept. 27.

Put them on his race car. Duh.
What on earth did he think he was going to do with 4 bespoke tires?
