Commuters seemed to be grudgingly adjusting Wednesday to Metra’s biggest-ever fare increase, although some were caught unaware of a new policy that eliminated a half-day grace period for buying monthly passes.
For some customers on the first day of the new fares, the cost of commuting soared as high as 35 percent, although the average for most regular riders comes out to about 30 percent.
