The Homer Township Public Library’s third annual Author Fair is on Monday, September 20th at 6pm! To celebrate this event, we’ve asked each participating author to answer a few questions. Next up is Lee Williams, author of In His Blood.
What are your current projects? I’m currently working on my second novel. The working title is The Pact. However, I’m leaning toward the title Sins of the Father when I publish it which I hope will be this October. This novel is historical fiction and starts in rural Mississippi in 1968 and the plot involves an African-American man whose ancestors were slaves. The man is forced to participate in crimes against his own people and novel details the effects on him and his family. The novel is written in two parts. The first part covers the years 1968-1969 and the second part starts in 1979 and takes place in Chicago. I have also started a sequel to In His Blood titled The Misfits. I’m only three chapters in to it and want to finish my second novel before I get back to number three.
What is your work schedule like when you’re writing? I’m semi retired and self employed consulting in criminal and civil cases. When I’m involved in a case it frequently monopolizes my time. Some of the cases I’ve worked on have been Governor George Ryan’s co-defendant, Larry Warner and media baron Conrad Black. In such cases I frequently testify as an expert witness in federal court for the defense. Getting back to my work schedule I try to write every day. As I mentioned above that is not always possible. When my work load is light I can usually do it. At a minimum I try to set aside 7:00-9:00PM.
What do you enjoying doing when you’re not writing?I enjoy reading, exercising and have recently taken an interest in indie movies. They seem to be much better than the flicks coming from the mainstream studios.
Can you recommend one book, musician, and movie? My two favorite authors are Michael Connelly and James Lee Burke. If you like detective novels I don’t think you can go wrong reading any novel one of these two gentlemen have written. Connelly’s last book Nine Dragons was very good. Movies I’ve recently scene that were really good were The Lady with the Dragon Tattoo and the sequel The Girl Who Played with Fire.
What are you reading now? I’m currently reading The Charm School by Nelson DeMille (another author I would highly recommend) and Burke’s latest novel, The Glass Rainbow.
