The son of Will County Board Chairman Jim Moustis is scheduled to return to court Sept. 27 on two counts of aggravated battery.
Circuit Judge Richard Schoenstedt set the new hearing date Monday during a brief appearance by Matthew Moustis, 17. No other action was taken.
Moustis allegedly knifed an 18-year-old acquaintance in a school parking lot on July 15 during a dispute over a girl. The alleged victim was treated at a Chicago-area hospital for wounds to the neck and abdomen, and released the next day.
Matthew Moustis’ attorney, Jeff Tomczak, previously told the Tribune he would attempt to persuade Illinois Appellate Prosecutor Charles Colburn to not prosecute the case.
The Will County State’s Attorney’s Office asked Colburn to prosecute the case to avoid the appearance of impropriety. The State’s Attorney is the attorney for the county board members, who fund the office.
