Dist. 181 school year starts without a contract for teachers

Students in Hinsdale-Clarendon Hills Elementary District 181 returned to school Thursday, a day after the teacher’s union contract expired.
District officials and teachers have met during 12 negotiation and mediation sessions totaling more than 40 hours, but have not come to an agreement.
At Monday’s school board meeting, both sides presented offers, but the sides remain divided on issues related to compensation.
