2010 Hinsdale Assembly

The Hinsdale Assembly began in 1962, by a group of area women, with a strong spirit of community, who wanted to donate to the Hinsdale Hospital. They felt the Hospital needed funding to keep up with the growing changes in the health industry. They held the first Debutante Ball in December of 1963. Ever since that date, the Hinsdale Debutante Ball has been held on December 23rd every year. The Adventist Hinsdale Hospital Foundation Board has selected the Hinsdale Assembly Board to receive the 2011 Centennial Medallion Award for Community Leadership to Adventist Hinsdale Hospital. The chairman of the 2010 Hinsdale Assembly is Michaela Creber.
Since 1963, the Assembly Board has honored and recognized exceptional young men and women in our community. The proceeds from previous Balls have been utilized for the purchase of medical equipment and the enhancement of medical services. Proceeds from the 2009 Assembly Ball continued the boards commitment to fund the Hinsdale Hospital Foundation's Digital Mammography Initiative. Proceeds from 2010 will complete the four year commitment to this initiative with the purchase of a Radiography Digital Specimen Unit. This mobile unit can reduce anesthesia up to thirty minutes and will often eliminate the need for additional surgery. Donations from the Hinsdale Assembly also were used in 2005 and 2006 to fund a wonderful Wellness Garden at the Hospital which serves many purposes for the mind, body and spirit of patients, staff, as well as visitors to the Hinsdale Hospital.
An important component of the Hinsdale Assembly participation has been service. This year, there are thirty one accomplished young women who will be presented at the Debutante Ball in December. As a board, the Assembly encourages community service and the 2010 class has helped to refurbish the Lawndale Community Recreation Center, hosted a tea for the residents at King Bruwaert in Burr Ridge, planted and cleaned hospital grounds in the spring and collected food for the Hinsdale Food Pantry. Individually, the young men and women involved in the 2010 Assembly have achieved countless hours of service to our local community, as well as many other regions. They are currently freshmen in college and have had an exceptionally busy year personally; with their college applications, high school graduation and leaving for college.
Currently, the Assembly is the second largest donor to the Adventist Hinsdale Hospital with donations exceeding $ 1,700,000 thru 2010. The board recently pledged another $ 250,000 over the next two years, funding the Second Floor Surgical Center of the new Patient Pavilion. These contributions are made possible by the legacies and traditions of the Hinsdale Assembly Board, the families of the Debutantes and Honor Guard and the support of sponsors and businesses year after year.
